How long have women's swimsuits actually existed?
In the early 19th century, women in bathing establishments simply wore their underwear: i.e., legwear, a bodice, and stockings. Men were, of course, not allowed in these bathing establishments. The first bathing costumes appeared around 1850; they were quite long at first and later became shorter and shorter.
